Indiana to slash mandatory 6% from college budgets
CareersToday | Dec 24, 2009 | Comments 0
Career education: In Indiana, Higher Education Commissioner Teresa Lubbers is in an unenviable position.
Due to a short-fall in tax earnings earlier in the year, the state is now calling for a compulsory $150 million cost reduction across all colleges. This would require a 6% cutback at every post-secondary institution, including the nationally recognized University of Indiana Bloomington and Purdue University.
However, many parties agree that such egalitarian treatment of the colleges is unfair, and the $150 million deficit should be dispersed on a number of factors, including each school’s available federal aide, and rates of student progress towards degree completion.
