Lifelong government worker transitions to retirement

Careers in Transition: In Kate Chopin’s well-known “The Story of an Hour,” Louise Mallard, a shocked window, circulates between deep despair and unexpected liberty over the course of an hour after learning of her military husband’s passing. After the grueling episode of intense emotion, he suddenly returns home to her – and the tortured epiphanies roaring silently beneath her composed femininity from only moments prior become obsolete.
Recently, a Virginia woman experienced the same stirring feelings as the poor girl in Chopin’s tragic tale; however, they were ignited by completely different circumstances. DiAna Hart Smith, a long-time government employee has penned with colorful precision her very own modern epiphanic moment. As the profound government worker finally decides to retire, she does so with unapologetic haste, pertinacious convictions, and a poetic fervor too often dormant over the last century.
