College Education: For decades, mothers, fathers, siblings, aunts and uncles have gushed excitedly to their friends when a family member has been accepted to U.C. Berkeley. The public university in Berkeley, California has had the privilege of teaching many extraordinary scholars over the years, consistently ranking in the top tier of national undergraduate universities. Sadly, extirpated by a $2.8 billion state budget cut to higher education, many fear that U.C. Berkeley, along with other outstanding California public universities, will begin losing their illustrious professors – and students. UC Berkeley has been forced to respond to the budget cut by raising tuition for 2010 undergraduates by more than $10,000. The hike-up has inevitably enraged current students and decreased the amount of new student enrollment, with U.C system faculty and the Board of Regents now faced with a perplexing dilemma – how will they remain a top national college system if both students and professors continue to flee?
