Scholarships can balance skyrocketing tuition costs

College Education: While college costs continue to soar, students are affronted with two choices.  The most comfortable option is to bemoan and refuse to apply for scholarships because of the large discrepancy between the hours spent on paperwork and the low acceptance rate.  And, even for those charmed few who are rewarded with scholarships, the monetary reward is usually a small fraction of the actual cost of a four-year education.  However, according to one first-generation college student, the secret to scholarship acceptance is simple.  Apply.  Force the dejection out of your head, obtain the prerequisite recommendation letters, and write those lengthy self-important essays – and before a student even arrives at the decision to apply for a scholarship, he or she should be heavily involved with campus life and giving back to the community.  The associations dolling out this free money have the right to give funding only to the best-rounded individuals who show the potential to benefit our world fiscally and socially upon graduation.  If you are still irresolute over whether to apply or not, remember that a scholarship is a reward, and like all rewards, it will shine brightly on your resume.
