Career centers see more student interest, less funding

College Education: University students coming to the periphery between academia and the real world in December and May will not have the jocular graduation that their contemporaries had a decade ago.  With unemployment for recent college graduates in the double digits, career centers, in the wake of their own financial hardships, are frantically turning to alumni for help.  Alumni outreach has been an effective method for job placement; they assist in everything from mock-interviews to networking events.  Nevertheless, today’s students know they have to rely on their own skills and motivational levels more than ever.  As one career expert explains, internships are still an incredibly viable way to get a job out of college, however students today should take on two to three internships to achieve the results that a singular position had in the past.
