Don’t let career dreams cloud common ‘cents’

Careers in the News: From toddler-hood through adolescence, most of us were fed trite sentiments such as never giving up on our dreams by our parents, teachers and caregivers. Hence it is natural to balk at the clinical advice of Assistant Psychology Professor, Patrick Carroll, who feels that people should dump their dreams in order to gain a healthy psyche. Unless a person has an innate talent or at least a drive strong enough to withstand the naysayers, than those dreams are better left for the more qualified candidate. Dream-seekers should be especially realistic during a recession, where an inundated market means you will need much more than a can-do attitude to compete among the skilled masses. But for those of us who thrive on encouraging clichés, this is no doubt a tough pill to swallow.
