Community colleges are ‘bursting at the seams’

College Education: President Barack Obama plans to invest $12 Million in community colleges, which have seen a remarkable growth in enrollment in 2009 due to displaced workers joining the community college system. However, while these colleges wait for Obama’s federal money to arrive, state and local agencies continue to minimize the amount of funding for two-year programs, and many schools have been forced to think creatively to accommodate the throngs of entering students. Grave-yard classes are now prevalent across the nation, while one community college in Maryland has been forced to transform a locker room into a classroom.
