‘Pet project’ blossoms into full-time career

Careers in Transition: A freelance photographer, and longtime animal lover, has chosen to dedicate her life to saving animals after a 2005 photo shoot in New Orleans. Paralyzed by unbearable empathy, she forsook her photography assignment duties and spent an entire trip to post-Katrina New Orleans saving orphaned dogs and cats. Today, Baltimore-based Heather Hart is the Animal Center Director at the Baltimore Humane Society. She implements low-cost spay/neuter clinics, educates the public about animal safety and even fills in with volunteer duties when necessary. Despite her current position requiring so much from her, both mentally and physically, the tender thirty-four year old is content that she has found her calling.
