Don’t Give Up on That Technical Degree: The US Still Leads the World In Science and Technology

Paul G. Allen Center for Computer Science & EngineeringSeems like every time we turn on the television news or talk radio,

someone is pontificating about the decline of the United States as a

technological superpower. According to a study released this week by RAND Corporation, this just isn’t the case. RAND recommends allowing more foreign workers to enter the United States on H1-B visas, however these are still relatively difficult to come by. Skilled workers with degrees in technical fields such as computer science and engineering are a very hot commodity.

While the United States may not be losing its technological edge,

enrollment in computer science degree programs has declined, by as much as

50% since 2001. The Job outlook for recent graduates is better than

ever. Now is the time to take advantage of these trends by enrolling

in a computer science or information technology program, at a college or university near you.
